On April 18, 2008, approximately two weeks after Norman had received his DNA results, I received my packet with my DNA results from African Ancestry. The result of my matri clan DNA tests was that I along with the other descendants of my grandmother, Estelle Thomas Brown, was from the Yoruba and the Fulani people of Nigeria. This also means that if you are a descendant from Arnold Humphrey, Charity Humphrey Pope White, Margaret Humphrey, and Amanda Humphrey Thomas, you too are of the Yoruba and Fulani people of Nigeria. The matri clan DNA goes from mother to daughter, and stretches back to the original female who left Africa as a slave.
Nigeria, also called the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is located in West Africa on the Gulf of Guinea. It is bordered by Benin, the Atlantic Ocean, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. Nigeria is a little more than twice the size of California, and has a population of approximately 134 million peoples. It has 7 cities with population over 1 million and its largest city, Lagos, has more than 10 million inhabitants. Nigeria has the world largest black population in Africa and in the world, and is the 8th most populous country worldwide.
The official language is English; however, Yoruba, Fulani, and Hausa are spoken along with more than 510 living languages. The population is comprised of, 21% Yoruba, 18% Igbo, 29% Hausa and Fulani, 10% Ijaw, 4% Kanuri, 3.5% Ibibio, 2.15% Tiv, and the remainders are Asians, Europeans and others.
